What were key elements of your personal and professional journey that lead you to where you are today?
My journey to where I am today has been shaped by a series of key elements that have influenced both my personal and professional growth. One significant milestone was completing my undergraduate degree in Psychology and Biology, which provided me with a strong foundation in understanding human behaviour. Upon graduation, I became a licensed insurance broker. Once I became a mother, I proceeded in obtaining my real estate licence(2003), so that I could be flexible and drag my poor kids with me to showings!! During this time, I honed my skills as a realtor and eventually was offered the opportunity to buy the company in 2019. Throughout my career, I've been fortunate to have mentors who have provided invaluable guidance and support. Their wisdom and encouragement have helped me navigate challenges and seize opportunities for growth. One pivotal moment in my professional journey was going through a divorce, and single parenting, which taught me the importance of resilience and perseverance. I emerged from that experience with a renewed sense of determination and a deeper understanding of my strengths and capabilities. Each experience along the way, whether it was overcoming obstacles or seizing new opportunities, has contributed to my personal and professional development. I've honed my leadership skills, expanded my network, and continuously sought out opportunities for learning and growth. Today, I find myself in a role where I can leverage my skills and experiences to make a meaningful impact. I'm grateful for the journey that has brought me to this point and excited about the opportunities that lie ahead.
What motivates you the most to keep going?
What motivates me to keep going is a combination of passion, purpose, and a drive to make a positive impact. I'm deeply passionate about representing women and supporting those that are entering the workforce, and I find great fulfillment in encouraging those that wish to work hard, take risks, and finding their truths. At the core of my motivation are my values, particularly the belief that every action I take should contribute to something greater than myself. Whether it's improving the lives of others, driving innovation, or advancing knowledge in my field, knowing that my work has meaning and purpose is incredibly motivating. I'm also driven by a strong sense of ambition and a desire to continuously grow and improve. Setting ambitious goals and working towards them fuels my determination and keeps me focused on the path ahead. Past achievements serve as reminders of what's possible when I push myself beyond my comfort zone, and they inspire me to aim even higher.
What is one important lesson that entrepreneurship has taught you that has impacted you the most?
One important lesson that entrepreneurship has deeply impacted me with is the realization that growth requires a combination of compromise, vision, hard work, and sacrifice. When my partners and I acquired the real estate brokerage in 2019, we embarked on a journey that has been both challenging and rewarding. Firstly, compromise became a fundamental aspect of our decision-making process. We quickly learned that success in entrepreneurship often involves finding common ground among differing perspectives. Whether it was negotiating deals, resolving conflicts, or making strategic decisions, the ability to compromise was essential in moving the business forward while maintaining cohesion among the partners. Moreover, having a clear vision proved to be indispensable. Establishing long-term goals and a shared vision for the future of the brokerage provided us with a roadmap to guide our efforts. It served as a guiding light during times of uncertainty and helped align our actions with our collective aspirations. However, having a vision is only the beginning; it's the relentless hard work that turns dreams into reality. Entrepreneurship demands a level of dedication and perseverance that few other endeavors require. From building relationships with clients and agents to implementing innovative marketing strategies, each day presented new challenges that required us to roll up our sleeves and dive in with determination. Lastly, but perhaps most significantly, entrepreneurship taught me the value of sacrifice. Growing a business often necessitates personal sacrifices, whether it's investing additional time and resources, forgoing immediate rewards for long-term gains, or prioritizing the needs of the business over personal interests. Recognizing and embracing these sacrifices as integral parts of the entrepreneurial journey became crucial in our pursuit of success. Overall, the journey of entrepreneurship has taught me that growth is not merely about expanding the bottom line; it's about cultivating a culture of collaboration, innovation, and resilience. By embracing compromise, maintaining a clear vision, committing to hard work, and making necessary sacrifices, we've been able to navigate the challenges of entrepreneurship and position our real estate brokerage for sustainable growth and success in the future.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years? What do you still have left to accomplish?
In 10 years, I envision myself transitioning into a well-deserved retirement, embracing a lifestyle that allows me to enjoy the simple pleasures of life. While I cherish the vibrant summers of Thunder Bay and plan to spend those seasons there, I also hope to relocate to a region with a milder climate for the rest of the year, perhaps somewhere serene and picturesque. Beyond geographical preferences, my aspirations for the future extend to achieving a level of success that affords me the freedom to explore and travel. I envision embarking on adventures to destinations far and wide, immersing myself in diverse cultures, and creating lasting memories with loved ones. Most importantly, I anticipate cherishing the precious moments with my future grandchildren, relishing in the joys of family and the beauty of intergenerational connections. Whether it's sharing stories by the fireplace, embarking on outdoor adventures, or simply spending quality time together, I look forward to embracing the role of a doting grandparent with open arms. Overall, my vision for the next decade revolves around balance, fulfillment, and a deep appreciation for life's treasures. I aspire to cultivate a lifestyle that prioritizes happiness, health, and meaningful relationships, savoring each moment along the journey of retirement and beyond.
