Member Spotlight | Kiersten Mosley, Founder at For Users’ Sake
Please provide a summary of your business, who you serve and how you serve them
I'm the founder of For Users’ Sake™—a design company that helps entrepreneurs and small businesses with their branding, website and marketing. I’ve always viewed knowledge as an asset to be shared and it has become my personal mission to educate people of all ages about user experience; customer-centricity and good design. As a result, I also launched a learning division—FUS Academy (named after my agency)—that mainly provides DIY courses to help entrepreneurs Plan, Brand, build the Website and Market. I'm a serial entrepreneur; I have a couple other related companies on the back burner, too—PERKspectives (market research platform that rewards for your opinion) and For Her Sake (where I will invest in EntrepreneuHERs).
What were key elements of your personal and professional journey that lead you to where you are today?
I lived and worked in Toronto for 23 years. Fifteen of those years were with LoyaltyOne, Inc working on the AIR MILES Reward Program. I loved it there, however in 2017 I was let go as the company had to restructure. Let's just say, BMO now owns AIR MILES. I've always wanted to have my own business—so, I guess the Universe finally aligned with my goal. I cried for one day, then enrolled in college to get my User Experience Professional Diploma. During those intense months as a single mother in college, I had my mom come down many times to help out with my 4 year old daughter. On my graduation day—which I skipped, I put my mother and daughter on a plane home to Thunder Bay; took a week to pack-up my life; and drove a 26' truck (attached to a trailer with my car) to start a new chapter in my hometown.
What motivates you the most to keep going?
Retirement LOL. I'm seeking financial security for when that time comes. I actually have a vision board and I'm working towards materializing those "dreams". Most importantly, I want my daughter to witness and learn that she can create the life she desires.
What is one important lesson that entrepreneurship has taught you that has impacted you the most?
Resilience. There will be failures—which I like to think of as necessary learning events, but if you want to make your dreams come true, you need to leverage that knowledge and keep going.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years? What do you still have left to accomplish?
I'll be in my dream home on the lake with my Mr. Right-for-me; having friends come and visit for days at a time; my daughter excelling in post-secondary; traveling; Sunday dinners with the family (especially my mom); running my empire, but focusing on being an Angel Investor. What do I still have left to accomplish? All of it. LMAO!
Why did you join The Elleiance Network, why do you think it is important to have a support network and what do you love most about being a part of Elleiance?
Having left Thunder Bay in 1994, I was surprised by the amount of changes and how I had to start all over again—including making local friends and acquaintances. I tried different groups and coaches, but it wasn't until Erin approached me about The Elleiance Network, did I find a group that felt right. Erin has built and is growing a network of genuine, non-competitive, and supportive women! They truly care, share insightful advice and sincerely celebrate others' successes. Joining was one of the best business decisions I have ever made.
Notes from Erin
Kiersten, with a few tweaks, this could seriously be me answering these questions. I could not love and be more inspired by your answers. If this is your first time being introduced to Kiersten, please connect with her immediately and offer to buy her a coffee. You won't regret it. Kiersten was an Elleiance early adopter being a member for almost 4 years! She is also the designer behind the new Carol's Cakes website (www.carolscakes.ca) and a true dream maker. It has been my absolute honour to witness Kiersten set big dreams and put one foot in front of another toward them. I love this community of ambitious supportive women!
